Visit to the US Military Academy, West Point.

In the United States of America an official working visit of the Ukrainian delegation headed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is continuing, including the Leader of the Crimean Tatar people, Mustafa Dzhemilev.

Yesterday they visited the US Military Academy, West Point.

The Head of state emphasised that he is very pleased to be in such an outstanding place today, which is filled with feelings of duty and honor, aspiration for freedom, democracy and dignity. Many graduates of the Academy became leaders of the United States. The President reminded the hero Thaddeus Kosciuszko (Tadeusz Kościuszko), who struggled for Independence of the United States and for Democratic Poland,independent from Tsarist Russia.

Also, the President reminded the graduate of the West Point, Mark Paslawsky. “Immediately, after the beggining of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2014, Mark Paslawsky, known as “Franco”, left the United States and joined the struggle for our freedom,” he said, and added with sadness that the hero was killed nearby Ilovaisk. The Head of state reminded that he awarded Mark Paslawsky with the Order of Danylo Halytsky, and handed it over to his family during the visit to the USA in 2015.

“Moscow cannot accept the sovereignty of Ukraine and wants to suppress the will of the Ukrainian people and our freedom. Today, Ukraine stands on the forefront for its independence, the future of the world of free nations and among those who are struggling for a new and better world order,” noted the President.

The United States Military Academy, also known as the West Point, is the Military Academy of the US Armed Forces, the oldest in the United States. The Academy is located in West Point city, New York state, in a picturesque place with the Hudson River view and in 80 km north from New York City and occupies about 65 km², and is one of the largest campuses in the world.
