Meeting of the President of Turkey with the Leader and representatives of the Crimean Tatar people in Kyiv

On October 9, in Kyiv, within the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Ukraine, a meeting with the Leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, and public figures from among the Crimean Tatars was held. During the meeting, President Erdoğan emphasized the unchanging position of Turkey regarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its support to the Crimean Tatar people.

The Leader of the Crimean Tatar people accentuated his attention to the necessity of putting pressure on the Russian government on purpose to release Crimean political prisoners. President Erdoğan assured in readiness of continuing to defend the freedom of Crimean political prisoners.

Recep Erdoğan highly appreciated the role of Ukrainian President P. Poroshenko in ensuring the rights of the Crimean Tatar people and expressed the hope that a strong Ukraine with the support of Turkey will be able to defend its interests and to support the Crimean Tatars.
