Crimean Tatar shot revival

On May 7th, discussion on “Repressed Revival of Crimean Tatar People” was held in the “Crimean House” in Kyiv.

This event was attended by the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of Crimean Tatars and leader of the Crimean Tatar People – Mustafa Dzhemilev, historician – Andrei Ivanets, literary critic – Yarina Tsymbal, and Executive producer at UA:Crimea and journalist of the ATR channel – Osman Pashayev. The moderator was Alim Aliev, program director of the state enterprise “Crimean House”

Historical reference: On April 17, 1938, the best representatives of the Crimean Tatar public figures: writers, ethnographers, publishers, teachers, scientists, cultural workers, and politicians were shot in the Simferopol prison on charges of “counterrevolutionary bourgeois-nationalist action”.

The formal accusation was lodged in participation of the “Milli Firka” party activities, nationalism and espionage in favor of Germany, Britain and other countries. However, a real aim of the execution was liquidation of an intellectual part of the Crimean Tatar people.

This tragedy is one of the largest in the history of the Crimean Tatar people, some historians even put it next to the consequences of the Deportation of 1944.
