The Meeting of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People

On April 29, 2011 the regular meeting of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People was held, also attended by the representatives of regional mejlises as well as the members of the faction “Qurultay-Rukh” in the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The meeting of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People approved the final version of the Plan of preparation and carrying out of the memorable events, dedicated to the memory of the victims of the genocide committed against the Crimean Tatar people and timed to the 67th anniversary of deportation, presented by the Organizational committee after the summarization of all propositions received from Crimean Tatar public organizations and individuals. It also defined the routs of columns of the participants of all-Crimean mourning meeting, dedicated to the memory of victims of the genocide committed against the Crimean Tatar people.

The next issue of agenda of the meeting of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people was the results of the elections of the members of local mejlises in Edi Quju (Leninsky district) Dzhankoy region. After hearing the report of Zair Smedlyaev – secretary of the Commission on preparation and organization of the elections of local Mejlises and in accordance with the article 5.3 of “Provision on local bodies of national self-government of the Crimean Tatar people”, Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people decided to assign carrying out of the regional conference of Crimean Tatars of Dzhankoy region on May 8, 2011.
Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people decided to entrust the Presidium of Mejlis to adopt the decision as for the date of carrying out of the regional conference of Crimean Tatars of Edi Quju region.

The meeting of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People considered the proposition of Crimean Tatar public organization “Irade” to establish a “Day of national revival of the Crimean Tatar people”. Yakup Ipchi, chairman of Crimean public organization “Irade”, delegate of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars spoke in details before the members of Mejlis about the motivation and gave his arguments for appropriateness of establishment of this day, pointing at the new era in the history of the Crimean Tatar people, promoting its consolidation and representing itself a manifestation of deep appreciation of the contribution made by the previous generation to the return of our people to its native land.

During the discussion of this issue the Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev reminded that on one of the last sessions of Qurultay of the 5th convocation the delegates of the national convention adopted a decision on appointing the date June 26 as an official date of celebration of the Day of Crimean Tatar national flag. “The mentioned above proposition was also supported by the World Congress of Crimean Tatars. In this respect the establishment of the annual celebration of the Day of Crimean Tatar national flag is also the deep manifestation of high patriotic and national ideas of the whole people, as well as an indicator of cohesion and unity of all our nationals”.

In conclusion of the discussion the decision was adopted to continue discussion of the proposition of public organization “Irade” concerning the establishment of the Day of national revival of the Crimean Tatar people with participation of general Crimean Tatar public and conducting a range of round tables in the office of the newspaper “Qirim”.

The members of Crimean Tatar Mejlis also discussed the situation around the land issue and attempts of some individuals to create provocative situations in order to break the established dialogue on settlement of land problem and allotment of land plots for construction of individual houses to participants of protest camps between Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and executive authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
