Representatives of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People Meet Permanent Representative of Ukraine to United Nations

On May 29, 2013, in the framework of the 12th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Mr Yuriy A. Sergeyev received the representatives of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People Mr Abduraman Egiz and Ms. Ayla Bakkali in the Office of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.

According to Mr A.Egiz, attending the work of the 12th Session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues,Mr T.Kayuk, First Secretary of the Mission and Mr A.Shapovalov, Third Secretary of the Mission took part in the meeting.

The parties discussed a range of issues relating to the preparation to the UN General Assembly World Conference of Indigenous People, the International forum on the restoration of rights of Crimean Tatar people in their Homeland, ensuring their safety and guaranteeing their development in Ukraine, initiated by Mejlis, as well as holding the memorial events, timed to the 70th anniversary of the Crimean Tatars’ deportation in the UN Headquarters in New York next year.

The participants of the meeting agreed to coordinate their efforts aimed at effectively use of the International mechanisms of the protection of the rights of Crimean Tatar people, as well as participation in the high level events scheduled.
