On May 18, 2013, Actions Commemorating Victims of Genocide of Crimean Tatar People to Be Held in EU Member – States

On May 18, 2013, on the Crimean Tatar National Mourning Day at 12.00 local time the Crimean Tatar diaspora organizations in the EU countries will hold the actions, commemorating the victims of the genocide of Crimean Tatar people, demanding from Ukraine the urgent restoration of the rights of Crimean Tatar people in their Homeland.

The participants of the actions will condemn the discriminating actions of the official authorities of Crimea against Crimean Tatar people, ignoring the representative bodies, elected by the Crimean Tatars in compliance with the democratic principles – the Qurultay of Crimean Tatar people and the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people.

At the same time, the participants of the actions of the Crimean Tatar disapora will call the international organizations to hold in the nearest future the International forum on the restoration of the rights of Crimean Tatar people, ensuring their safety and guaranteeing their development in Ukraine.

The Crimean Tatar disapora organizations will conduct their actions before the Embassies of Ukraine in such European capitals as: Brussels, Hague, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, London, Bucharest, Warsaw, Bern and other capitals of the EU members-states, as well as in Turkey – in Ankara and Istanbul.

The representatives of the human rights advocacy organizations, politicians, MPs of the countries mentioned were also invited to take part in these actions.

Note: On May 18, 1944, the Crimean Tatars were subjected to the deportation from Crimea. This crime became the genocide of Crimean Tatar people considering that almost half of the Crimean Tatars – mainly children, women and elders (46,2%) died of hunger and unbearable conditions of hard labor in conditions of special commandments regime in exile up to 1956.
