On behalf of Mejlis Mustafa Jemilev expressed his sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of an ardent fighter for freedom of Ukraine to the whole Ukrainian people over the irreplaceable loss – Mikhail Goryn’s death.

On January 13, 2013 the well-known Ukrainian dissident, human rights advocate, the Soviet political prisoner, public and political figure, MP of Ukraine of the 1st convocation, supporter of the restoration of the independent Ukrainian state – Mikhail Goryn died, aged 83.

Mikhail Goryn was one of the most consistent and brave fighters among the great pleiad of Ukrainian human rights advocates that started fighting against the totalitarian regime of the USSR in early 60-es for the rights of Ukrainian nation and other enslaved peoples,” – the condolences of Mejlis’ Leader said. “As a real democrat Mikhail Goryn also stood for the rights of the Crimean Tatar people. He was really happy when Crimean Tatars started returning to their Homeland in late 80-es of the 20th century and spoke for the full restoration of the rights of the indigenous people of Crimea”.

Mikhail Goryn underscored all the time the importance of the interrelation and unity between the national-democratic forces of Ukraine and Crimean Tatar national movement for the development of the independent Ukraine.

“One couldn’t help paying attention to Crimean Tatars’ persistence and self-sacrificingness in assertion of their rights. On June 28, 1978 when Musa Mamut exhausted all possibilities to remain in his native land and the attempts were made once again to exile his family from Crimea, he burned himself. In the same year Ukrainian Olexa Girnyk burned himself, protesting against Russification of Ukrainian people… The destinies of these two peoples have many in common… The peace in the region to a considerable degree depends on their interrelation and understanding of each other”, – the real patriot of Ukraine and our sworn brother Mikhail Goryn pointed out.

Farewell friend, farewell sworn brother…
