Mejlis Head Mustafa Jemilev Meets Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Mr Egemen Bagish

On September 20, 2013, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, MP of Ukraine Mustafa Jemilev met in Bakhchisaray with the Turkish Minister for European Union Affairs Mr Egemen Bagish who arrived at Crimea to take part in the 10th Forum of Yalta European Strategy (YES). The Minister was accompanied by Mr Mehmet Samsar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Ukraine.

During the meeting the Mejlis Head informed the Turkish Minister about the outcome of the meeting between the leaders of Mejlis and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Mr Stefan Fule, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr L. Kozhara and Administration of the Council of Ministers of ARC.

The EU Commissioner Mr Fule supported the Mejlis’ initiative to hold the International Forum in 2014 on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people from their land,”- M.Jemilev noted. At this the participants of the round table discussed the urgent issues relating to the situation with the Crimean Tatar people and the role of the international community in their solution.

The Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Mr Egemen Bagish noted that he supports the position of the EU Commissioner Mr Fule about the role of the International Forum for Ukrainian state in the framework of the solution of the Crimean Tatar problem and problems of the former deported citizens in the whole.

The parties also discussed the further prospects of implementation of the social and economic, cultural and housing projects under the support of TICA, and the construction of Buyuk Juma Jami (Cathedral Mosque) and Crimean Tatar Cultural Center in Simferopol.

The Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Mr Egemen Bagishassured the Mejlis Head Mustafa Jemilev that he would certainly raise these issues on the nearest meeting with the Prime Minister of Turkey Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
