May 19, 2011 Brian Mefford, independent consultant for IREX met with Crimean Tartar Mejlis.

The main topic of the discussion between Zair Smedlyaev, the Head of the Secretariat of Mejlis and Lilya Muslimova, Mejlis’ Press Secretary and Mr. Mefford was development and support of national Mass Media in Crimea, as well as areas of possible cooperation and assistance between IREX and Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

According to Brian Mefford, “IREX” is the Independent Research and Exchange Board which conducts various technical assistance programs for USAID (the United States Agency for International Development) in Ukraine.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of Atlant SV TV and Radio Company Sevil Alyadinova, journalist and Girey Seydametov, IT engineer.
Mr. Mefford is a former Director of IRI (the International Republican Institute” (USA) in Ukraine.
