July 25, 2012 OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Mr K. Vollebaek Meets Mejlis’ Leader Mustafa Jemilev in Kyiv

On July 25, 2012 the meeting between the Leader of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev and the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Mr Knut Vollebaek, making his four-day visit to Ukraine was held in Kyiv in the meeting hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The main topics that were raised at the meeting were the processes, relating to the ethnic and political situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the course and prospects of the adoption of the laws on the restoration of the rights of the persons, deported on the national grounds, as well as the prospects of holding of the International Forum on Crimean Tatars and representatives of other deported nationalities in Ukraine.

The High Commissioner showed his special interest in the position of Mejlis’ Leader concerning the impact of the election of the new Parliament on the solution of the sensitive issues of the ethnic and political life of Ukraine.
Due to the strained schedule of the High Commissioner in Kyiv the parties agreed to continue the discussion of the issues raised on July 26 in Crimea.
