Crimean Tatar Mejlis’ Delegation Meting with Members of German-Ukrainian Parliamentary Enter-Faction Group in Bundestag

On June 27, 2011 in the framework of its working visit to Germany the delegation of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people held a business dinner with the Head of German-Ukrainian Parliamentary Enter-Faction Group in Bundestag Mrs. Berbel Kofler. The dinner was also attended by the MP of Germany, member of the German-Ukrainian Parliamentary Enter-Faction Group Mrs. Karin Shtrents and staff of protocol department of German Bundestag.

During the meeting the Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, MP of Ukraine Mustafa Jemilev and members of delegation of Mejlis informed the other party in details about the peculiarities of the social and political situation in Ukraine and Crimea and the modern situation with Crimean Tatar people. A special emphasize was given to the fact that Crimean Tatars, whose return and resettlement on their native land lasts already for more than 20 years and faces much hardships, set their hopes on restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people in connection with the processes of increasing cooperation between Ukraine and State-parties to the EU.

As Mustafa Jemilev noted, today Ukraine needs practical experience of the developed democracies and support of such authoritative international organizations as UN, EU, Council of Europe and OSCE. At this, one should pay a special attention to the factors ensuring the civil consent and possibilities for increasing democracy in Ukrainian society. Consequently, the questions of restoration of justice towards Crimean Tatars and elimination of all consequences of the criminal deportation and the decades of forcible retaining of Crimean Tatars in the places of exile must be obligatory discussed by the international partners of Ukraine in the process of working out of the basic principles of interrelation between Ukraine and States – parties to the EU and international organizations.

The participants of the meeting paid a special attention to the questions of preparation and carrying out of the International forum on the restoration of the rights of Crimean Tatar people on their homeland, its security and guarantee of development in Ukraine. “It’s time to confirm and implement on the international level “a road map” of restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people in Ukraine,”- Ali Khamzin concluded.

The Head of the German-Ukrainian Parliamentary Enter-Faction Group in Bundestag Dr. Berbel Kofler and her colleague Karin Shtrents highly evaluated the position of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people binding the solution of the question of restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people exclusively to the democratic development and integration of Ukraine to Europe.

The member of Bundestag Karin Shtrents noted that development of the democratic principles and protection of the rights of the national minorities for the members of the European Union is one of the basic principles of development of the society. According to their opinion the mentioned principles for the states claiming to become a member to the EU are the basic and indisputable demands. That is why the German parliamentarians added that they share the idea of conducting of the International forum and ready to take part in discussion and seeking for the forms of restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people.

Mustafa Jemilev invited the members of Bundestag – members of the German – Ukrainian parliamentary enter-faction group to visit Crimea at any appropriate time.

In conclusion of the meeting the delegation of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, members of the parliamentary enter-faction group in Bundestag and representatives of Crimean Tatar diaspora in Germany made a joint tour around Bundestag building – German Parliament.
