Condolences over Margaret Thatcher’s death
Margaret Thatcher, a single woman in the history, holding the post of the British Prime Minister, 1979 – 1990, died on April 8, 2013, Monday in London
Thatcher’s premiership was one of the longest in the 20th century. Heading the Government of the Great Britain – one of the most influential European states, the permanent member of the UN Security Council, Margaret Thatcher held the international policy of deterrence of the expansion aspirations of the Soviet Union. The period of her ruling saw the intrusion and occupation of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union, resulted in sharp aggravation of the international situation and armaments drive.
Margaret Thatcher made her significant personal contribution to the democratization in the USSR in the period of “perestroika”. The mass protest of Crimean Tatars on the Red Square in Moscow in summer 1987, demanding the return of the Crimean Tatar people to their Homeland and restoration of their rights, found her personal understanding and support of the British government, headed by Margaret Thatcher.
On behalf of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people I would like to express my sincere condolences to the relatives and friends and all subjects of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland over the death of the legendary Margaret Thatcher.
Leader of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev
