Committee of the VR of Ukraine for Human Rights Holds Visiting Meeting in Zakarpattya Region

On October 1-2, 2013, the visiting meeting of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations was held in Zakarpattyaregion.

The Chairman of the Mejlis, MP of Ukraine Mustafa Jemilev who chairs the subcommittee on Human Rights, National Minorities, Ethnic Groups, Formerly Deported People and National Minorities of the VRU Committee on Human rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations also took part in the visiting meeting.

During the two-day work of the Committee it will hold the meeting in the premises of ZakarpattyaRegional Council in Uzhgorod to consider the situation in regards of the ensuring of the rights of the national minorities in Zakarpattyaregion and practice of application of the Ukrainian law to the refugees and persons who require the additional or temporary protection in western border areas of Ukraine.

The members of the Parliamentary Committee will also meet with the faculty and students of the Department of the European Law and Legal Studies of GVUZ “UzhNU” and visit the Center of Culture of National Minorities of Zakarpattya.

On October 2, 2013, the Committee will continue its work in the western Ukrainian cities such as Mukachevo and Beregovo where its members will visit the temporary refugee center in Zakarpattya region and meet with the faculty and students of Ferents Rakoci the 2nd ZakarpattyaHungarian Institute, leadership of the Hungarian Parliament’s National Unity Committee and representatives of the Roma community.

In the framework of the visiting meeting the committee members visited the areas of compact settlement of Roma national minority.
