Chairman of Mejlis: We Will Hold Referendum When We Will See Need in Demonstration of Clear Will of Crimean Tatar People
Refat Chubarov said this at his briefing during a break at the 2nd session of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People, held on March 29, 2014
Refat Chubarov also said that the draft Resolution of the Qurultay “On the implementation of the Crimean Tatar people’s right to self-determination in their historical territory – Crimea” was based on the international law and many accomplished facts and precedents with regards to the states, including the Russian Federation.
“We did as much as any other peoples would do in the situation when his territory became a subject of big discussions with regards to the sovereignty and rights to this land. We stated about our right to the self-determination in this land. That is why every parliament and state, referring to the basic documents of the UN, mainly UN Charter, has just one way out – to support the right to self-determination of the Crimean Tatar people in their native land,”- the Chairman of the Mejlis said.
The Chairman of the Mejlis underscored that the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People follows from the fact that the right of the Crimean Tatars to self-determination is unquestionable and based on the international documents. “We are looking for the respond of the parliament and governments of the states. I have no doubts that the Parliament of Ukraine must be the first to respond to our document. I don’t know will the Russian Parliament and other neighbor states react,”- Mr Chubarov concluded.
In addition, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov announced his intention to meet the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Naturally, one week ago we outlined a range of issues that take place in Crimea and around it and that from our point of view should be discussed at such meeting. Considering that in compliance with the international agreements the state acting like Russia is responsible here for every process, even though the rest question its right to present in this territory in such status. To my opinion one should discuss it with the president of the country that established its legal framework here,”- Refat Chubarov believes.
