Chairman of Mejlis Mr Refat Chubarov Met with Mr Manfred Huterer, Head of the EU Relations with CIS Countries Section, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany

On February 5, 2014, Mr Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People and his Vice Mr Aslan Omer Qirimli met in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany with Mr Manfred Huterer, Head of the EU Relations with CIS Countries Section, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.

The participants paid the special attention to the prospects of the solution of the problems of restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people. In this regards Mr Refat Chubarov focused his partner’s attention to the importance of holding the International forum on the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people, ensuring their safety and development in Ukraine in 2014.

Mr Aslan Omer Qirimli in respond to the proposal of Mr Manfred Huterer informed him about the peculiarities of the modern economic development of Crimea and expressed a range of proposals on the activization of the partner relations between the Crimean and German entrepreneurs.

During the meeting the parties also discussed in details the situation with the Crimean Tatar people in light of the political crisis in Ukraine. Mr Refat Chubarov, characterizing the public and political situation in Crimea noted the activization of the separatist forces in the peninsular.

“In this complicated time for Ukraine and Crimea our position is based on the following principles: non-violence, dialogue and reaching the compromise between all subjects of the political life in Ukraine following from the principle of the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine,”- Mr Refat Chubarov said.

In conclusion of the meeting the parties expressed their readiness to continue consultations and meetings to discuss the issues relating to the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people.

The meeting was also attended by Mr Ahmet Ozay, representative of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and Dr Matias Rot, officer of the Division of the EU Relations with Russian, Ukraine, Belorussia, Moldova and Eastern Partnership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
