Chairman of Mejlis Convinced in Necessity of Holding International Forum on Crimean Tatars in Spring 2014

During the meeting with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Mr Stefan Fule and representatives of the state and republican authorities the Chairman of the Mejlis, MP of Ukraine Mustafa Jemilev drew attention of the participants of the round table that in few months, on May 18, 2014 there will be the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the deportation and genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.

“During this period the people struggled for survival, return to their homeland and restoration of their basic rights,”- the Mejlis Head underscored. “On this significant day for the Crimean Tatar people the central square of Simferopol will be full of tens of thousands of people like in all previous years. We would like to tell these people something encouraging about the prospects of the solution of their national problems,”- M.Jemilev said.

Mustafa Jemilev was sure that such encouraging thing could be the announcement of the decision to hold the International forum on formerly deported people under the aegis of the EU and OSCE. “We propose to hold this forum on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the deportation – in March or April 2014,”- the Chairman of the Mejlis M.Jemilev said.
