Dear Petro Oleksiyovych!

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People supports the initiative of an outstanding figures in science and culture of Ukraine and 178 people’s deputies of Ukraine on announcing 2018 as the year of the State Language.

We assume the fact that strengthening the position of the State Language not only protects and develops the indigenous languages and languages of national minorities of Ukraine, but also contributes to the completion of the formation of the Ukrainian political nation, the integral part of which are the Crimean Tatar people who are the indigenous people of Ukraine.

Under the Russian aggression conditions, the State Language also plays a powerful mobilization role in restoring the state sovereignty of Ukraine in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

The announcement of 2018 as the Year of the State Language of Ukraine will help to consolidate society, will show our firmness and confidence in our own ideals, forces and unity, to our partners and allies of the whole world.
