Mr. Robert Serry, Senior Advisor to the UN Secretary-General: International Community Has not Doubts Territorial Integrity of Ukraine

He said this during his meeting with the Chairman of the Mejlis Mr Refat Chubarov on March 5, 2014

According to Mr Robert Serry the UN Secretary-GeneralMr Ban Ki-moon authorized him personally to find out the reasons of emerging of Crimean crisis and make the comprehensive analysis of the situation in order to develop the effective mechanisms to solve it peacefully. He reminded that the participants of three meetings of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine and Crimea demonstrated clearly their support of the unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine. “We also think that the Crimean Tatar people plays the leading and consolidating role in the Crimean peninsular,”- Mr Serry underscored, stating the position of the international community and added that the international community thinks that there is no need in bringing the foreign troops into Crimea.

On request of Mr. Robert Serry, Senior Advisor to the UN Secretary-Generalthe Chairman of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov informed in details about the recent events and also stated the position of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People and a range of proposals on crisis solution, based on the peaceful settlement and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Mr Robert Serry expressed his support to the position stated by the Chairman of the Mejlis at this he noted that in order to implement efficiently the proposals on forming the Special deputy commissions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Council of Ministers of ARC that could let us a balance of interests in Crimean crisis, needs the guaranteed participation of the representatives of the international community and diplomacy in such negotiation process. In addition, the senior advisor announced the main messages of the office of the UN Secretary-Generalthat first of all comprise in the need to deescalate the situation in the Crimean peninsular and search for a dialogue.

“The UN structures and international community is also concerned about the fact of the illegal seizure of the state organizations and entities by the armed persons. In compliance to the Human Rights Charter, the UN keep to the main rule – every conflict must be solved exclusively in a peaceful way and by a dialogue. In addition, we are sure that we need a dialogue today between the authorities in Kyiv and only legal representatives of the authorities in Crimea, including in order to solve the contradiction that emerged earlier”- Mr Serry said.

In conclusion of the meeting the Senior Advisor to the Secretary-General also shared his impressions about his stay in Crimea. In particular, according to him, the meeting that was planed for today with Mr Sergei Aksenov who presently positions himself as the Head of the Crimean Government, was canceled for unknown reasons and nobody from the protocol service of the Council of Ministers of Crimea didn’t inform Mr Robert Serry about the rejection or Mr Aksenov’s unwillingness to meet with him. “I will inform Mr Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General personally about the results of my meetings in Crimea and I will have to inform him about Mr Sergei Aksenov’s attitude to the officers of the office of the UN Secretary-General,”- Mr Serry said.
