Chairman of Mejlis Refat Chubarov Meets Ombudsperson in Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mrs Valeriya Lutkovska
On March 3, 2014, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Mr Refat Chubarov met with the Ombudsperson in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mrs Valeriya Lutkovska who arrived in Crimea on March 3, 2014 in order to monitor the observance of the rights of the citizens of Ukraine and foreign states living in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Ukrainian soldiers.
The parties exchanged the information about the recent events in Crimea and discussed the ways and mechanisms of settlement of the situation in Crimea.
So, Mr Refat Chubarov expressed his confidence that today the Special deputy commissions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Supreme Council of Crimea must be formed as soon as possible to consider together the whole scope of issues that led to sharp escalation of the situation.
The Ombudsperson Mrs Valeriya Lutkovska supported the proposal of the Chairman of the Mejlis Mr Refat Chubarov noted that the situation must be solved exclusively in the political field. At this Mrs Lutkovska noted that the main task of the office of the Ombudsperson in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is the protection of the human rights and ensuring all measures in the framework of its authorities in order to preserve peace and calm in Crimea.
Mr Nariman Dzhelalov, Vice Chairman of the Mejlis, the representatives of the Ombudsperson Mr Mikhail Chaplyga and Mr Yuri Belousov and representative of the Ombudsperson in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in AR Crimea Ms Natalia Sharova also took part in the meeting.
