The Meeting of Akhtem Chiygoz with Jesper Moller Sorensen
On November 23, 2017, the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Akhtem Chiygoz, who arrived in Copenhagen (Denmark) to participate in the work of the PACE Bureau, met with Mr. Jesper Moller Sorensen, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
Within the meeting, which was also attended by Artem Vladimirov, Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine in Denmark, the situation with violation of human rights in the Crimea temporarily occupied by Russia, politically motivated persecution of the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians was discussed.
Akhtem Chiygoz informed Mr. Jesper Moller Sorensen about the tragic events that occurred in the Crimea a few hours before the meeting, about bringing by Russian occupants the 83-year-old activist of the Crimean Tatar national movement Vedzhie abla Kashki to the death and the arrest of the group of activists of the national movement.
Akhtem Chiygoz thanked the Danish government for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity, for constant attention to the situation with human rights and the situation of the Crimean Tatar people in the occupied Crimea, and also expressed concern about the actions of certain European politicians who advocate for restoring the powers of the Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe , without waiting for the releasing of the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Mr. Jesper Moller Sorensen, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, assured his interlocutors that Denmark will continue to base itself on the norms of international law in support of Ukraine and advocate for preservation of economic and political sanctions against Russia until full restoring of Ukraine’s sovereignty over the occupied territories, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.
