Chairman of Mejlis Meets with Turkish Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs
On October 11, 2013, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, MP of Ukraine Mustafa Jemilev held the separate meetings in Ankara with the Prime Minister of Turkey Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mr Ahmet Davutoglu.
During the meetings the parties discussed the relations between Turkey and Ukraine, the results of the visit of the President of Ukraine Mr V. Yanukovych to Turkey, as well as the discussion of the Crimean Tatar problem at the meeting with the Ukrainian President.
Before the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs M.Jemilev also took part in Mr. A.Davutoglu’s meeting with the delegation of Iraq’s Turkmens.
During the separate meeting the Foreign Minister Mr Davutoglu informed M.Jemilev about his proposal made during the visit of the President Mr Victor Yanukovych to the members of the Ukrainian delegation – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr L. Kozhara and the Head of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Mr A. Mogilev to hold the second round of the four-party meeting with participation of the ministers of foreign affairs of Turkey and Ukraine, as well as the Head of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Mr A. Mogilev and the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People to discuss the problems of the Crimean Tatars. As is known, the first such meeting attended by the ministers of foreign affairs of Turkey and Ukraine, as well as Mr M.Jemilev and Crimean Prime Minister Mr A. Mogilev took place in October last year. According to Mr A.Davutoglu the Ukrainian part didn’t object this meeting. Mr A.Davutoglu also expressed his opinion that this meeting could be held in January next year during his meeting with the ministers of foreign affairs – the OSCE members that will be held in Kyiv.
At the meeting with the Prime Minister of Turkey Mr R.T. Erdogan that was held in the headquarters of the governing Party of Justice and Development and lasted around one hour, much time was given to consideration of the prospects of hosting the International forum on Crimean Tatar rights under the aegis of the EU and the OSCE.
M. Jemilev informed the Prime Minister of Turkey about the meeting attended by the representatives of the Mejlis and several representatives of the Crimean Tatar people invited by the Crimean authorities and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Mr Stefan Fule, as well as the reports on various aspects of the Crimean Tatar problem made by the expert groups of the OSCE, EU and UN bodies.
The Mejlis Head gave the Prime Minister of Turkey the report titled “Integration of the Formerly Deported People of Crimea in Ukraine”. The parties also discussed the issues relating to the implementation of various TICA’s projects in Crimea.
In the framework of his two-day visit to Turkey M.Jemilev also attended the headquarters of the association “Türk Ocakları” in Ankara in order to express his condolences over the death on October 10, 2013 of Mr Nevzat Koroglu, ex-President of this association, the former MP of Turkey, the well-known political figure and writer, the publisher of 32-volume anthology titled “Turkish Literature From Outside of Turkey”, the 13th volume of which was dedicated to the Crimean Tatar literature.
