October 7, 2013, Meeting of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People

The issues of preparation to the 1st session of the Qurultay of the 6th convocation were included into the session’s agenda. In particular, the members of the Mejlis considered the draft agenda and exemplary procedures for the 1st session of the Qurultay.

The result of the detailed consideration of the draft documents prepared by the Mejlis Secretariat was approval of the draft procedures of the 1st session of the Qurultay of the 6th convocation by the Mejlis members. The Organizing Committee was ordered to develop the draft exemplary procedures for the 1st session of the Qurultay and prepare the approved pack of documents at the nearest meeting of the Organizing Committee to be then spread among the delegates of the Qurultay of the 6th convocation in compliance with the Regulations of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People.

In the framework of the Mejlis session, the Fist Vice Chairman of the Mejlis Mr Refat Chubarov introduced the members of the Mejlis with the draft Statement of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People concerning the active process of preparation to the International forum on restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people.

The statement was adopted unanimously.  “The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People hopes that 2014 will become the make-or-break year in the development of the Ukrainian state when the aspirations and efforts of Ukraine to make its contribution to the development of the larger Europe will be also marked by the beginning of the process of restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people and guaranteeing for their safety and development in their Homeland,”- the statement of the Mejlis sais.

In addition, the Head of the Secretariat at the Mejlis Mr Zair Smedlyaev informed that on October 7, 2013 at night the building where 30 Crimean Tatar families lived was burned off in Gaspra. At the moment the member of the Mejlis, the Head of the Department on the Interethnic Relations and Migration of Yalta City Council Mr Zaur Smirnov is present at the site and is studying the scale and consequences of the tragedy along with the officers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

“The fire in the three-storeyed building started on October 7 at night. The fire destroyed almost the whole building. Fortunately, there was no human losses, but all its residents appeared in the street with no means of support,”- Mr Smedlyaev said. The Head of the Secretariat of the Mejlis asked the members of the Mejlis to help their nationals who suffered in the result of this tragedy.

In their turn, the members of the Mejlis confirmed their readiness to provide assistance to the fire victims.
