Mejlis Representative Gives Letter of Mejlis Head M.Jemilev About International Forum to MEPs

On July 6-7, 2013, Mr Abduraman Egiz took part in the regular 15th meeting of the Presidium of UNPO (The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization) in Brussels and held a range of meetings with the Members of the European Parliament.

The meetings were held in the European Parliament and European External Action Service.

Mr Abduraman Egiz met with Mr Jerzy Buzek, MEP, Ex-Prime Minister of Poland and Ex-President of the European Parliament.

During the meeting Mr Abduraman Egiz informed MEP Jerzy Buzek about the letter of the Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People, Ukrainian MP Mustafa Jemilev addressed to the MEPs concerning the organization and holding of the International Forum. Mr Jerzy Buzek expressed his high opinion about the efforts of the Crimean Tatar people adhering to the non-violence principles and democratic methods. The MEP noted that the international community always sympathized with the struggle of the Crimean Tatar people in the period of the communist regime of the USSR and supports the idea of the International Forum. “I think that Ukraine as part of the European family will make the right decision and will hold this important event in Ukraine,”- MEP Jerzy Buzek stated.

During the meeting with the Mr. Reinhold Brender, Deputy Head of the Eastern Partnership Division for Relations with Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and the Southern Caucasus, European External Action Service Mr Abduraman Egiz discussed the significance and possibility of holding the International Forum on restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people in the framework of the preparation to the ratification of the EU – Ukraine Association Agreement in November this year in Vilnius.

Mr Abduraman Egiz underscored that the open position of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People that actively supports the integration of Ukraine to the European Union is well known in Ukraine.

He also hold meetings with the MEPs, Mr Knut Fleckenstein, Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with Russia, Mr Bernd Posseltom (Germany), Tunne Kelam (Estonia), Leonidas Donskis (Lithuania), Pavel Zalevsky (Poland) and Emine Bozkurt, Crimean Tatar from the Netherlands.

The MEPs expressed their gratitude for the information provided in Mustafa Jemilev’s letter concerning the essence of the problem and about the need to hold the International Forum on Crimean Tatar issue.

It should be noted that during the meetings mentioned above the possible measures of the international community to solve the Crimean Tatar problem and participation of the MEPs, as well as the European institutions promoting Ukraine in holding the International Forum were discussed.
