Events Commemorating Victims of Genocide 1944 Were Held in Tashkent on May 18, 2013

The mourning event timed to the 69th anniversary of the deportation of Crimean Tatar people was held in the Museum on May 18, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mrs Alie Imadinova, Deputy Head of the Crimean Tatar National Cultural Center “Avdet” reported.

“The Crimean Tatar Cultural Center in Tashkent City “Avdet” called our nationals to honor the memory of the victims of the repressed peoples. Many our nationals came to share the pain of our people, including many young Crimean Tatars, as well as Mr Yuri Savchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr Sergei Kononenko, Consul of Ukraine in Tashkent. There were also guests from Australia, France, Czech Republic and USA,”- Mrs Imadinova informed.

According to the representatives of the National Crimean Tatar Cultural Center “Avdet” Mr Bahtier Hasanov, PhD, Head of the Museum of the Victims of the Repressions and Mr Nusret Jemilev, Head of the National Crimean Tatar Cultural Center “Avdet” made the mournful speech.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr Yuri Savchenko spoke with understanding of the Crimean Tatar tragedy at the meeting. In his speech he told in details about the events of 1944 and underscored that nobody should forgot these black pages in the history of mankind.

The participants of the meeting hold one minute’s silence and made prayer in remembrance of the victims of the genocide of Crimean Tatar people. After that they laid flowers to the monument.

The commemorating events then continued in the Museum of Memory for the Victims of Repressions where Mr Ravshan Nazarov, scientific worker of the museum, Mr Rinat Shagobeddinov, leading scientific worker of the institute of history, and Mr Richard Ansel, historian – researcher from Australia made their speeches, and the patriotic verses about the Homeland were read.

“Until we live and our memory still alive we must keep on remembering the tragic days of our history, passing the pain of the tragedy of our people from generation to generation,”- the participants of the commemorating events told on this mourning day.
