Extreme Swimming Race Commemorating Victims of Genocide of Crimean Tatar People Will Be Held in Egypt

On May 18, 2013, the unprecedented extreme 100 kilometers swimming race across the Red Sea will start in Egypt from the Ras-Mohammed National Park to Hurgada city.

The swimming race will commemorate the victims of the genocide of Crimean Tatar people and is timed to the 69th anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatars from their historical Homeland – Crimea and honor the memory of those who fall victim to the criminal communist regime of the Soviet Union.

Mr Ali Hamzin, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations at Mejlis reported this at the meeting of the Organizational committee on preparation and holding of the memorial events commemorating the victims of the genocide of Crimean Tatar people (the 69th anniversary of deportation) held on May 14, 2013.

“A yacht will accompany the swimmers. The participants of the race are four swimmers: Mr Oleg Sofyanik, marathon swimmer, Ukrainian Book of Records holder, former dissident and political prisoner, Mr Shamil Alimuradov, former political prisoner from Moscow, Mr Imre Arakas, fighter for the national liberation of Estonia and Mr Anatoliy Vyalets, marathon swimmer from Cherkasy,”- Mr Hamzin said.

The swimming race will take 4-5 days.

According to the organizers and participants of the race, its participants want to honor the memory of those who died and call those who live today prevent repeating such terrific tragedies in the future. “Our goal is to show the danger of the devil ideology of communism. It is especially important today when the communist and pro-Soviet organizations rose their heads again and striving for power to start red terror again,”- the organizers of the action underscored.
