Crimea Commemorates Peter Grigorenko

On February 21, 2013 the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian community held the ceremony of laying flowers to Peter Grigorenko’s monument, located in P. Grigorenko’s square (former Soviet square) in Simferopol.

The ceremony, organized by the veterans of the Crimean Tatar national movement and youth organizations with support of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, was timed to the 26th anniversary of death of the great friend of Crimean Tatars, well-known human rights advocate, co-founder of Ukrainian Helsinki Group, General Peter Grigorenko, Krymskotatarske pitannya online reports.

The ceremony began with placing of flowers to the dissident’s monument. After that the veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement Zampira Asanova, First Vice Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Head of the Parliamentary faction “Qurultay-Rukh” in the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea Refat Chubarov, Head of Crimean branch of the Congress of Ukrainian nationalists and others spoke at the ceremony.

Refat Chubarov noted in his speech that Crimean Tatars remember Peter Grigorenko’s words and his last will – be united and not ask, but demand protection of your rights. “As soon as you will yield to tricks there will be no future for you,”- Refat Chubarov reminded the words of the dissident.

At this the First Vice Chairman of Mejlis noted that today the authorities take actions, aimed at splitting Crimean Tatar community.
