New Composition of Regional Mejlis and its Head Have Been Elected in Aqmechit (Chernomorsky) Region

As reported, the elections of the local mejlises’ members of Aqmechit region were held on April 7, 2012. 53 members were elected to 9 local mejlises. Thus, the local mejlises were elected in all administrative-territorial districts of this region (excluding Novoselsky village council) and they had already held their first sessions before the calling of the regional conference where they had elected the heads and secretaries of local mejlises.

On April 29, 2012 the regional conference of Crimean Tatars of Aqmechit (Chernomorsky) region was held that was attended by the delegates – newly elected members of local mejlises.

According to the “Provisions on the local bodies of the national self-governance of the Crimean Tatar people” the chairing at the regional conference of Crimean Tatars of Aqmechit region was entrusted to the secretary of the commission on preparation and organization of the elections of local mejlises Zair Smedlyaev and member of the Election Committee Zevdzhet Qurtumerov.

After consideration of all procedural questions, related to the carrying out of the regional conference its delegates started consideration of the question of the election of the chairman of Aqmechit regional Mejlis.

It is gratifying that the election of the chairman of Aqmechit regional Mejlis was held on an alternative basis. After the counting of the results of the secret ballot with the bulletins containing the names of the candidates to the position of the chairman of the regional Mejlis – hajji Server Bavbekov, Ismet Selyamet and Shevket Smailov it was declared that Shevket Smailov was elected the Chairman of Aqmechit regional Mejlis by the majority of voters.

Then the delegates of the conference voted for the adoption of the decision on the forming of the composition of Aqmechit regional Mejlis that in compliance with the Provision included 9 heads of newly elected mejlises, as well as Arsen Dzhunevitov, Veli Ibragimov and Said Qurtajiev who were proposed by the Head of the regional Mejlis.

In conclusion of the work the delegates of the regional conference discussed the questions, related to the carrying out of the memorial events, dedicated to the memory of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people and adopted the corresponding decisions.
