Democracy Issues and Situation of Crimean Tatar People to Be Discussed In Prague

On Sunday, October 9, 2011 the International Conference “Forum 2000” started its work in Prague, Czech Republic, attended by more than 140 people from all around the world.

The 15th annual Forum 2000 Conference, which will address the relationship between democracy and the rule of law, will last until Wednesday, October 12.

The conference opened in an ancient St. Anna church in the presence of two Forum 2000 founders – President of Czech Republic (1993-2003), human rights advocate Václav Havel and President of Japanese Peace Foundation Yohei Sasakawa, as well as 2001 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economic Sciences Joseph Stiglitz.

This year more than 600 people became the special guests of the Conference, including the authoritative politicians, state figures and experts from various countries and regions of the world.

Crimea was represented by the Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, MP of Ukraine, famous human rights advocate Mustafa Jemilev. The ceremonial opening was also attended by the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and the President of Kosovo Atifete Yahyagay.

On October 11, 2011 in the framework of the Forum 2000 International Conference the Chairman of Mejlis Mustafa Jemilev is to take part in the discussion titled “Ukraine: A Fast Track Away From Democracy?” to discuss the issues of formation of the democracy in Ukraine, as well as the peculiarities of development of the relations between the EU and Ukraine.

Moreover, the regional discussion table titled “Future of Crimea” is also dedicated to Crimea and Crimean Tatars where Mustafa Jemilev is to tell about the modern situation of the Crimean Tatar people and answer the questions of experts and journalists.
