UNPO Resolution:

The 11th UNPO General Assembly, November 30, 2012,

Geneva, Switzerland

UNPO’s Statement on Assistance to Ukraine in Holding the International Forum on Restoration of Crimean Tatar People’s Rights

Crimean Tatars are the indigenous people of Crimea, reviving in their Homeland after the decades of the forced keeping in the places of exile in the result of the deportation of 1944.

Taking into consideration the failure to solve the issue of the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people in Crimea for more than two decades after their return to their historical Homeland we think that the international assistance to Ukraine in seeking for the ways and determination of the roadmap in the process of the soonest solution of the Crimean Tatar problem is necessary.

As is known, the initiative of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people taken two years ago to hold the International Forum on the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people in its Homeland, ensuring its safety and guaranties for the development in Ukraine found the broadest support of the European countries, USA and Canada. Today the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Mr Knut Vollebaek developed and presented the concept and plan of events of holding the International Forum to the Government of Ukraine.

We believe that this initiative is a timely and reasonable step towards the determination and working out of the mechanisms and ways of the comprehensive solution of the issues of the resettlement, political and legal, social and economic, as well as the cultural rights of Crimean Tatars. We express our concern about the unreasonable delaying of the process of adoption of the decision on the format and date of the Forum by the Government of Ukraine.

Supporting the initiative of the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Mr Knut Vollebaek we call the international community to assist Ukraine in organization of the International Forum on the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people in its Homeland, ensuring its safety and guaranties for the development in Ukraine.
