Heading the Government of the Great Britain \u2013 one of the most influential European states, the permanent member of the UN Security Council, Margaret Thatcher held the international policy of deterrence of the expansion aspirations of the Soviet Union. The period of her ruling saw the intrusion and occupation of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union, resulted in sharp aggravation of the international situation and armaments drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Margaret Thatcher made her significant personal contribution to the democratization in the USSR in the period of “perestroika”.
