The so-called “Supreme Court” of Crimea fully supported the accusation against Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chyigoz, that the prosecutor's office is required for him - 8 years of imprisonment.

Akhtem Chiygoz together with his lawyer Nikolai Polozov and his wife Elmira Ablyalimova was waitingfor the court's decision in the pre-trial detention center by video broadcast.

On August 1, after 150 meetings, occupation judges completed the investigation on the case of Akhtem Chiygoz.

On August 9, in his last speech on the "court", Akhtem Chyigoz stated that he would accept this verdict for the entire Crimean Tatar people.

The Deputy Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Ahtem Chiygoz, was arrested in January 2015 for participating in a rally in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine in front of the Supreme Council of Crimea on February 26, 2014. At that time, protesters were opposed by pro-Russian activists,in particular, from the party of “Russian Unity”. The Russian authorities of the annexed Crimea accuse Chiygoz in organizing mass riots.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has already expressed its strong protest to the Russian Federation for the Akhtem Chiygoz sentence. This was reported in Twitter by Pavlo Klimkin, the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

President Petro Poroshenko responded to the decision about jailing the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz.

He wrote about this on his Facebook page:

"The legal case of Akhtem Chiygoz -  is another judgment of Russia, which at the highest point ofinternational level - the UN - is recognized as an occupier.

You can illegally restrict freedom, but you can never break the will and the truth! You can occupy someone's land, but it will burn beneath your feet and burn until it is released– emphasized the President of Ukraine."
